Official: Manchester United Announce Signing of Andrey Santos

Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea, bolstering their midfield ahead of the new season with one of the Premier League's most highly rated young talents. The transfer marks a significant addition to United's squad as the club continues its rebuilding process under head coach Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils announced the deal on Monday through the club's official channels, confirming that Santos has signed a long-term contract running until June 2031, with the option of a further year. Reports indicate the transfer is worth an initial £48 million, with an additional £2 million in performance-related add-ons, while Chelsea have retained a 10 percent sell-on clause.

Speaking after completing the move, the 22-year-old expressed his excitement about joining one of England's biggest clubs.

"It is a dream come true to sign for Manchester United. Everyone knows the history of this club and what it represents around the world. I can't wait to get started, meet my new teammates, and play in front of the supporters at Old Trafford," Santos said in a message shared by the club.

Santos arrives at Old Trafford after an impressive spell at Chelsea, where he established himself as one of the club's standout young midfielders. After initially joining the Blues from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama in 2023, he gained valuable experience through loan spells before returning to become an important part of Chelsea's first team during the 2025–26 campaign. He made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, earning praise for his composure, passing range, defensive awareness, and ability to contribute in attack.

Manchester United's decision to pursue Santos comes as the club looks to strengthen its midfield options following recent changes within the squad. The departure of experienced midfielder Casemiro and an injury to Manuel Ugarte left United short of quality in the middle of the park, prompting the club to move quickly for the Brazilian international.

Club officials believe Santos possesses the technical ability, tactical intelligence, and work ethic needed to thrive in the Premier League while fitting seamlessly into Michael Carrick's preferred style of football. His versatility allows him to operate as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder, or box-to-box player, giving United greater flexibility throughout the season.

Although still only 22, Santos has already represented Brazil at senior international level and is regarded as one of the country's brightest midfield prospects. His performances over the past two seasons attracted interest from several European clubs before Manchester United secured his signature.

The signing has generated excitement among United supporters, many of whom believe Santos can play a key role in restoring the club's competitiveness in domestic and European competitions. Fans have praised the club for investing in a young player with significant potential rather than focusing solely on established stars.

Santos becomes one of Manchester United's marquee additions of the summer transfer window as the club continues reshaping its squad. Reports suggest United remain active in the transfer market, with additional reinforcements expected before the window closes as Carrick seeks to build a team capable of challenging for major honours.

Chelsea, meanwhile, wished Santos well following his departure, bringing an end to his relatively brief spell at Stamford Bridge. While the London club loses one of its promising midfielders, the transfer provides significant funds that could be reinvested in strengthening other areas of the squad.

Manchester United supporters will now be eager to see Santos make his debut in the famous red shirt, with expectations high that the Brazilian can become an integral part of the club's long-term plans. His arrival signals United's continued commitment to building a younger, dynamic squad capable of competing at the highest level in the years ahead.
