“Let Your Husband Control the Money” – Pastor’s Marriage Advice Triggers Reactions

A pastor has stirred conversations on social media after sharing his views on financial transparency in marriage, arguing that wives who earn an income should give their husbands full access to their finances.

In a video that has since gone viral on TikTok, the cleric claimed that many marital disputes stem from situations where spouses, particularly wives, keep their earnings separate and inaccessible to their partners.

According to him, marriage should be built on trust and openness, especially regarding financial matters, and husbands should not be excluded from discussions about household income.

“Any woman who is working and earning money should allow her husband to have authority over her finances. Your ATM card and PIN should be known to him. You should willingly present your earnings to your husband rather than treating him like a stranger who has to ask for financial assistance,” he stated.

The pastor went on to suggest that women who desire stable and long-lasting marriages should be prepared to support their husbands financially and make their resources available for the benefit of the family.

His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing that transparency and shared financial responsibility strengthen marriages, while others argued that financial independence and mutual consent should remain important aspects of a healthy relationship.

The pastor further stated that women should use their earnings to appreciate and support their husbands, arguing that such gestures can strengthen the bond between couples.

According to him, a wife should not hesitate to spend her income on her husband’s needs and wellbeing, including purchasing gifts and other items that make him feel valued.

“If you earn a salary as a woman, you should be willing to buy your husband quality shoes, clothes, wristwatches, and other gifts. Honour your husband with your resources, and in return, he will continue to encourage and support your progress,” he said.

His remarks have since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with opinions sharply divided.

While some users agreed that financial openness and mutual support are essential ingredients for a successful marriage, others criticized the pastor’s stance, describing it as one-sided and unrealistic.

Reacting to the video, one social media user questioned, “Will the husband also give his wife access to his ATM card and PIN?”

Another commenter wrote, “Use all your money to honour your husband in this economy? That sounds unrealistic,” accompanied by laughing emojis.

The debate has continued online, with many Nigerians discussing the balance between financial transparency, personal independence, and shared responsibility in marriage.
